All of our hopes for fresh and juicy fruit this Spring are dashed. The last freeze did more damage than I had anticipated. The Apricots and Plums all froze on the trees. The blossoms of the Peach Trees and the Cherry Bushes all froze and are hardly setting any fruit. We may get a few Apples and Pears later this year.
And the Strawberries got shocked by the heavy freeze and decided to grow runners instead of strawberries. I do not yet know if I can convince them to produce nice fruit instead of runners. The few strawberries that I was able to harvest, are small and often crippled, but tasted delicious with Vanilla Ice Cream.
Since we are an Experimental Berry Farm and I want to grow organic and healthy food for you, I use no chemicals. I do not feel comfortable with overfertilizing to convince the strawberries to produce bigger fruit, since they would not taste any better than the Strawberries you buy at the grocery store.
I am so sorry that I have no better news for you. It is very disappointing!
Since fruit is not happening, I am planting a lot of summer vegetable seeds and hope for a summer harvest.
